What is the best piece of racing advice you have ever been given?
Back your own ability.
What do you admire most in the sport?
Damien White, he’s my best mate and I admired the effort he's put in to get to where he has in the sport.
Who do you see as a main rival?
Everyone, as it’s my first year in the category I will just be trying to learn as much as I can as a driver.
How do nerves and/or fear affect your driving? How do you overcome them?
Nerves are a state of mind and I feel I have a strong state of mind to overcome most obstacles. But saying that I’m sure sitting on the starting grid at Clipsal will be just a little bit nerve racking!
What is your favourite circuit and why?
I have only raced on a handful of tracks but out of them I did like Oran Park.
Describe your most memorable accident:
Thankfully to date I have only had small ones.

Winning the Super TT series as part of the AMRS in 2008
Which is your favourite race?
This is my first year of racing in the Utes so I haven’t really raced on too many circuits. Of course I’m really looking forward to going to Bathurst and I think Townsville will be great.
What is the worst thing about V8 Ute Racing?
Repair bills!!
What is the best thing about V8 Ute Racing?
Being in the category now for nearly 5 years, I know most of the drivers and teams really well and we are all great friends. It definitely is nice to turn up at the tracks and catch up with all your mates.
How do you keep fit?
I train with a company in Wollongong – Savvy personal training and they have been pushing me to get fit.
How do you prepare for a race? Do you have any superstitions?
Not really.
Who are your major team sponsors and do they have any personal significance to you?
My main sponsor is Selectv. They are Australia’s newest pay tv subscriber. There part of Win Corporation which is a Wollongong based company. It’s so great to get so much support from our local area.
What is the significance of your helmet design?
The colours are our WPR colours and I just created the design myself. It had to incorporate lucky #13 as I was born on Friday 13th, so this is my lucky number.
What do your friends and family (and kids, if applicable) think of your chosen profession?
A lot of my friends come away with me and are involved in it so they all love it. My family are very supportive of it as well although Mum does get a little scared when I race.
Does car racing run in the family?
Yep, my Grandfather raced Bathurst in the 60’s in a Mini, and then Jaimie my wifes father raced speedway for years as well.
How did you get into motor sports?
Through my best mate Damien White. I went to the track one day to watch him race one day, he got me hooked and the rest is History!!

I do have an X-Box that I occasionally play. Thinking about buying a WII

Do you have a life-long ambition and if so, what is it?
Race at Bathurst and do the Bridge to Bridge water ski race in my race boat California Blue.

“The life of Gary”
Does any member of your family or a close friend travel with you to race meets? If so, who?
My wife Jaimie comes to all the races, my mum and dad and Jaimie’s parents often come out to support me. A couple of my close friends come to most of the rounds too.
Are any of your friends and/or family involved in the sport? If so, explain how.
My fiancé wife works full time for WPR, Damien races and works in the industry, Tony is a panel beater and very handy to have at the Ute races.
Who taught you to drive? Describe the experience.
My Dad, it went pretty well.
